The world of Otogi Zoshi opens up in ancient Japan, where five stones, named the Magatamas, are sought after by the people of Kyoto. The stones represent the five elements and are supposed to bring an end to suffering if laid together. Young Hikaru, who has to disguise herself as a boy, undertakes an epic search to find three of the stones, which cause her to come into some epic conflicts on a treacherous journey.
